Are you a constructor of components or integrated systems aimed at one or more safety functions?

Whether it is about a sensor or a mechanical valve rather than a complex measurement system or a logic solver equipped with firmware or embedded software, the requirement is always the same, provided that these products are designed to be integrated into a safety loop: validating the conformity to use for safety applications by means of the safety life cycle, as defined by the IEC 61508 series of standards.

H-ON provides a complete service in terms of conformity assessment for components or integrated systems for any SIL (SAFETY INTEGRITY LEVEL) level you may want to achieve. If requested, H-ON is also able to issue the relevant SIL certification which can be used at international level.

Are you a system integrator or an end-user whose products are designed to perform one or more safety functions?

The realization and commissioning of a Safety instrumented system (SIS) is certainly connected to the use of single suitable components in order for those to be implemented into safety-related control functions.

However, the selection and combination of components which are individually able to achieve the agreed SIL (SAFETY INTEGRITY LEVEL) does not automatically imply that the entire SIS can actually be achieved. For this reason, H-ON supports both the system integrators and end-users in this important phase through the use of a series of services designed for those who need to create a complex system, starting from the selection of components available on the market. The overall aim is to create a system able to achieve a specific SIL level as a whole.

Last but not least, the development of an applicative software and consequently its validation is an important part of this phase. Many of the potential risks involved in SIS derive from any fault management logics or diagnostic capabilities which are ineffective due to programming. Are you a process designer that needs to address risks with the right compromise between costs and benefits?

Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). The method starts with data developed in the Hazard and Operability analysis (HAZOP study) and accounts for each identified hazard by documenting the initiating cause and the protection layers that prevent or mitigate the hazard. The total amount of risk reduction can then be determined and the need for more risk reduction analyzed. If additional risk reduction is required and if it is to be provided in the form of a Safety Instrumented Function (SIF), the LOPA methodology allows the determination of the appropriate Safety Integrity Level (SIL) for the SIF.
