ISO 13849 Training

Performance Level Training Course
Targeted courses for personnel responsible for the safety of safety-related control systems.

Start a course for your team to learn the pillars of ISO 13849

The objective of ISO 13849 training is to support those responsible for functional safety in acquiring skills for compliance with specific requirements for machine safety.

The knowledge of the two parts of standards ISO 13849-1 and ISO 13849-2, is fundamental for the verification and validation of the Performance Level required for safety functions whose malfunction compromises the safety of people and the infrastructure itself.

It is possible to organize the training days online or in personaccording to the needs and the number of participants.

The training is on-the-job, allowing personnel to gain conceptual and operational knowledge on the entire process of verification and validation of the Performance Level (PLr) according to machine safety standards.

The training course covers the ISO 13849 standard and the related standards applicable to the product to achieve the required PLr level, with the aim of training personnel following a technical-operational approach.

The training sessions are held by our TÜV Rheinland certified teachers, with referenced experience in the field of functional safety, and cover the following modules:

  • Purpose and field of application of ISO 13849 standard
  • References to the Machinery Directive
  • Risk reduction strategy and references with ISO 12100:2010
  • Determining of required PL
  • Evaluation of the PL achieved by a SRP/CS
  • SRP/CS Hardware categories and MTTFD,DC,CCF concepts
  • Security requirements for the software

The skills acquired can therefore be put to immediate use in your organization, and are certified with the participation certificate.

FAQ

Part 1, ISO 13849-1, deals with designing SRP/Cs, providing the manufacturer with the provisions necessary to be able to design and build a system defined as “safe,” using the required PLr reliability level for integrated safety functions as a reference.

ISO 13849-2 deals with the subsequent phase regarding validation of the created SRP/Cs and indicates how to conduct assessments and testing to validate the system.

Validating the Performance Level provided for in Part 2 of the ISO 13849 standard is essential because this is the real part of the process that ensures the control system corresponds properly to the architectural principles, diagnostics, and system behavior in the event of common or systematic failure.

Performance Level validation is structured into three main phases:

  • defining a validation plan that includes all the pertinent documentation regarding the assessments and functional testing that must be conducted
  • validation via assessment, that is, low-level assessment on all applicable requirements
  • conducting functional testing, only if established in the validation plan and only mandatory for function categories that base their reliability on redundancy (or fault tolerance), classified as PLr category from 2 to 4
